Small Sighted

I look at all of the problems that we are faced with right now that really seem to be overwhelming people (There are of course that elite group of unconcerned citizens that seem to have all the money and happiness they can muster since they are completely uninvolved in our societies issues or problems.) and I think about how short-sighted we have become. Why can't anyone see the bigger picture?

We are reforming health care by trying to create universal healthcare insurance somehow forgetting that there are numerous issues facing healthcare. The uninsured is just one of many strains on the healthcare system, but everyone has become focused on this one debate, those other issues are almost forgotten.
We are so concerned with the economic crisis, the GDP, job loss numbers, unemployment, and manufacturing and production forgetting that there is no longer a gold standard. We are merely passing around IOUs when we are fretting over the debt and problems of companies and nations. Commodities are even now nearly worthless, so what are we so upset about. If the entire system collapsed, what would be the big deal? We would no longer be able to live off of credit, but no one would be able to live off of credit so we would all be in the same situation. We would have to work where we live and buy the basics we need. Oh well! I don't need any of the crap that clutters my life. Not a novel thought I know. "Fight Club" deeply explores this, but in the midst of all of the panic, it is worth looking at the bigger picture.

Anytime I hear a news broadcast about any problem, I am reminded how narrow minded we all are thinking and the inability we have to look at the true root of the issue. Maybe you will start to notice it to. Next time the fear mongers of broadcast news tell you about what problem could be ailing your child, look to see if there is a bigger reason this is even an issue. I have an example, but I'll share it another time.
